Before it was sooo.... hard. My wrist still hurts from dragging one single file to the Applications folder. Oh, and I just love having to pay sales tax on the apps.

I don't hate the Mac App store, I just don't think it should be a factor in the award. With that said, its Apples award and they can do as they please with it, including making acceptance of onerous terms a prerequisite to compete.

So they shouldn't be able to make the rules for their awards on their platform???

Why would Apple logically develop a piece of software that uses the graphics card when I have four processors - many others have two - begging to be worked. I guess I never understood the logic of using Core Image to power this thing.

I think that's because you don't understand how CoreImage is meant to work (I'm not saying how it does work for you). When you write an ImageUnit to run in CoreImage you are not targeting a particular processor at all (be that CPU, GPU or some future co-processor). You write your code in a special language and it gets compiled into a kind of 50% compiled code. CoreImage will then run this on the GPU or any of the available CPUs using whichever it thinks will be fastest at that time.

You can read about it here (, see Parallel Execution around half way down.

"Well regulated" even. Sounds like "regulations" to me. ;)

Scholars have said that that phrase is equivalent to "well trained" in the context. Which means the constitution mandates firearm safety training for gun owners.

The video was hard to watch and saddens me more because a double minority (a black woman) should know better. The irony of this beating should be lost on no one.

You would think that; however one could argue that black Americans don't repay the goodwill done towards their causes by standing up for other minorities. In fact, you could say that they do the opposite and use other minorities as scape goats for their problems. You could say that but then everyone would just call you a racist.

I really don't get why you didn't just knock at the door of the house and explain that your Xbox was stolen and since it's been connecting to your internet connection you know it's in their house. They'll not be able to tell there's no way you could know for certain. If the parents knew, then at least it would spook them, and if they didn't they'd probably be glad to return your property and give their kid a severe kick up the backside. The police very rarely get things done in situations like this, though it sounds like you at least got a cop who really did try.

My 3G is on its last legs, literally. I may succumb to the white iPhone 4 if this is what is in store for the next calendar year.

What I'm wondering is.. if Gizmodo never posted that video, would we have heard about it anyway? As in, would there be news stories saying "Pranksters hit CES hard by turning off displays"
My guess is we wouldn't have heard anything of the sort.Very true. They were so proud, they incriminated themselves, and went so far as to say that Panasonic was "lucky" they didn't have an exposed IR receiver fro their 150 inch display. Wow.

I started to think more about this and I think they are going to get punished where it will really hurt: Ad revenue and sample products to review. If i was a vendor, there is no way I would send something to them to review would i advertize on their site. Especially if I were Motorola. I wouldn't be surprised if Gizmodo is shuttered in a month or so. Let them come to Macworld... it will probably be the last conference they ever cover.

I'm thinking about buying someone one of the "Photo Day" passes as a gift. Any ideas if it's worth the $250?

(e.g. has anyone gone to a similar event, and was it worth it)

The 20" is still way over-priced.I agree, I just picked up a pretty nice 19" LG for $299. Would I rather have a 20" Cinema Display? Yes, but for over 2X the price it's not even a consideration. Still way overpriced. Even the Sonys are considerably less expensive.

If you had access to these, why would your camera be this bad?

Think about it, even if you were using a 3G iPhone to take the shots, they'd be better quality than this.

I agree with the idea that this would be an extra product to the line-up rather than a replacement leaving it

iPod Shuffle | iPod Nano | iPod | iPod Video

That's got to work for everybody. I was personally concerned when these stories first emerged (ages ago  ) that the iPod would be replaced as, in it's current incarnation, it's exactly what I want.

I really don't care anymore...tomorrow will probably follow a familiar formula - some disappointments, some bullseyes.

This is what I want after seeing the infamous "cube with a handle" patent that surfaced earlier this week:

A projector, similar to ( large capacity HDD, WIFI, Bluetooth, and maybe a media-only version of OSX. In fact, maybe just Front Row. One could transfer movies downloaded (or created in iMovie) to the projector's HDD to then be projected to a wall or screen. Better yet, with DSL or Cable hooked up directly, one could download directly to the HDD. DVR? Additional Combo drive? Built in speakers (perhaps a couple from the Hi-FI) would provide sound should you choose not to use the optical audio out. Firewire 400/800. HDMI I/O The kicker? A protective sheath and handle like in the patent picture that would allow the owner to take the relatively compact projector to other places. The addition of WiFi would allow future Apple wireless products to recognize and stream to the projector. Who wants to crowd around an iPod to look at a clip on a 2.5" display anyway?

Wow. All this speculation has gone to my head. Time for bed.

WTH? Whoever wrote this clearly doesn't have any idea about what has been going on in architecture in, oh, the past 150 years. I met Peter Bohlin last year and we got to talking about his design strategies. He's been doing similar work throughout his career, even before BCJ (then Bohlin Powell) was founded in 1965. Check out Japanese architecture from the past 1,500 years.

As an architecture major and architectural history minor I find this comment to be Jobs-worship. Thinking that nobody else could come up with the concept of a simple and sophisticated design is just asinine.

My rant aside, I love the floor plan and can't wait to see some elevations/perspectives. Go BCJ!

Also, on a side note, BCJ is the firm that designed Bill Gates' house...

Bill Gates copying Steve AGAIN, just earlier than usual this time... (!) (<-- That's a sarcasm mark)

if you want to prevent people from screwing with you presentations on tvs, just disable the ir port (via the rs232 console/diagnostic software or by slapping a sticker over the ir port). securing you devices takes at most 2min per device. so let the companies learn from this and don't bash gizmodo like mad.

And, pray tell, what other completely unnecessary "precautions" should the companies take to insure that snot-nosed jackasses (who are stupid to the point of even ADMITTING their lame stunt on their own web site) not screw around with their presentation walls and equipment? Security dogs next to power switches? Locks on power strips? Bits of tape over every ir port on every device they show? Oh, yes, the big dork-off companies should learn their lesson against such obvious security risks. The same companies that invest sweat, blood, money and tears to bring us the gadgets we love to have.

It's not even as if these bone-heads went out and invented some magic solder-based toy in their garage and showed the world how uber-geek they could be; for that, I MIGHT consider a prop in their direction IF they kept the mischief down to one or two non-presentation instances. They simply used a stupid TV-B-Gone that can be had by any moron for 20 bucks.

Way to go, GizLamo. That was as funny as letting the air out of a tire of your neighbor and giggling from the front window watching him worry about being late for work. A laff-riot if you're 12 and developmentally disabled. Hardy-har-har.

Starting to get annoyed by Apple...who cares if other brands have a similar issue. The issue is with the iPhone4, which is their product, and should be taking responsibility for. This is such a childish thing to do. I really thought Apple would be better than this.

Annoyed by Apple? I'm sure Apple is annoyed by all the people who are saying that Apple doesn't know how to make phones, especially when the problem they're getting flak from is also reproduced on other phones just as easilly, but no other companies are getting **** on by the public and media for also having this issue? Why is it ONLY Apple that gets dumped on?
